1. What different awards are available?
The awards map to broadband job functions seen in a working environment. These awards are:
  • Master Technician (MT) has gained general knowledge and expertise in analog RF coaxial network and drop installation practices and procedures.
  • Master Technician, Customer Premises (MTC) is qualified to install, maintain, and troubleshoot analog and digital services in the drop network from the distribution tap to the terminating device at the customer's premises.
  • Master Technician, HFC Networks (MTH) is an expert in HFC network maintenance practices and procedures; the MTH is qualified to service and maintain two-way analog and digital services in the coaxial feeder and trunk system, fiber-optic system, and headend.
  • Senior Master Technician (SMT) is an unparalleled expert, possessing knowledge on all HFC network and drop installation practices and procedures and the ability to maintain and troubleshoot the entire system from the customer premises through the headend.
2. Can I earn more than one award?
Yes, you can earn as many awards as you want. Current Master Technicians may choose to gain further Master Technician awards. With the exception of Senior Master Technician, the awards do not build upon one another.
 
 
3. Can I apply my completed courses to more than one
     award?
Yes, all your completed courses can apply to all the awards.
 
 
4. Do the Master Technician awards fit into the College Program?
The new Master Technician awards have a perfect fit with our College Program, due to the fact that most of the courses carry college credit.
 
 
 
 
5. Will Jones/NCTI provide students a different certificate for each award?
Yes,Jones/NCTI will provide a specific certificate and baseball cap for each award achieved.
 
6. If I have already completed Fiber Optics Technician course, do I need
       to take Fiber Installation and Activation and Fiber Testing and Maintenance
       courses to qualify for Master Technician (MT) or, Master Technician HFC
       Networks (MTH)?
No. If you already completed Fiber Optics Technician course, you don’t need to take Fiber Installation and Activation and Fiber Testing and Maintenance courses.
 
7. Can I order items from the Master Technician catalog
      for each award I achieve?
Yes, Master Technicians can order items from the catalog for each award they achieve, subject to verification.
